Questions Answered!

Today we stayed home and did some cleaning in the girls rooms, worked on Math and Reading, and the girls played outside some and we had our quiet times....This is really the first time I have suggested individual "quiet times" because it just seems like the older ones--Miranda especially-are ready to do that on their own.
At breakfast, we read some of the creation account together as I attempted to explain what I thought may have happened to the dinosaurs. But since I don't really know exactly what went down with the large beasts...I just pointed them to the scriptures and what we CAN know really did happen with all the animals, and we went from there. Later, we split up to have separate quiet times. I told them to find a place to be alone, so Miranda went outside with her bible and devotional book under a tree. I actually saw her talking aloud to God....precious! (so I took a pic or two)
I had to assist Kayla a little bit, so I sat with her while she read some from her early reader bible. Then I sent her off to her room with it so she could pray in her bed and read some more.
Kayla saw me taking her picture...so this is actually her praying pose....hee hee! Kids are hilarious!
For the little ones I just prayed with them and then let them watch a Veggietale movie, and then reading time in their beds before their naps...
Then I sat on the couch and tried to get in a little quiet time of my own while the house was momentarily still. But I was not without the cooing of Cami from her swing and the occasional "Mommy what is this word..." from Kayla. I did manage to get one lesson in. Yea!
The girls just were overflowing with questions today for some reason. As we were trying to do our desk work stuff in the afternoon, they began to have questions about Thanksgiving and Fourth of July...so off I go to explain the settlers and pilgrims coming from England, etc. After a few minutes I had exhausted all I could recollect on the subjects and decided to tell Ben to hurry home so I could make it to the Library before they closed. So, I went and got books on the subjects, the few I could find anyway....many of the Thanksgiving books were already checked out, go figure....but I managed to grab a few for us to delve into in the next couple of days. I hope that some of the ones I picked up will accurately portray the historical events, especially as it pertains to the account of the pilgrims. I really want the kids to have a good understanding of why the pilgrims came and about their faith. I am thinking about looking around online for some good christian books on the subject because this is something we can revisit year after year with the girls. I want them to know that thanksgiving is more than just "Turkey Day" and also that the Fourth of July is more than just fireworks and food....although I do delight in all those "extras" along with the rest of America. I want our holiday celebrations to reflect our faith and the faith of our founding fathers as well. OK, enough about that for now....We finished our day out with choir practice at church and then dinner and homemade rice krispie treats, which Brookie calls "Bice Rispies"...I love it!
